Welcome
Living with visual loss can be difficult not only for the person whos vision is impaired but the affect on family, friends and the surrounding community. Most children will learn to adapt to that which surrounds them, however when sudden visual loss occurs later in life change can be come increassingly difficult to adapt too and for communities to accept that which they do not understand.
Vision impairment means that a person's eyesight cannot be corrected to a "normal" level. Vision impairment may be caused by a loss of visual acuity, where the eye does not see objects as clearly as usual. It may also be caused by a loss of visual field, where the eye cannot see as wide an area as usual without moving the eyes or turning the head.
Severity can range from simple refractive correction, to low vision to permanant and total visual loss. Many have a misconception that blindness represents the inability to see anything visually. While this is the most challenging and difficult level of blindness there are many other levels of blindness that can often be corrected with regular eye care from the time your child is born and continue through out their life time.
